PHILADELPHIA (SCN Tuesday, March 23, 1999)-Allen Iverson decided Tuesday morning that it was time to rid himself of "the man."
David Falk, who represents a stable of NBA stars, including Michael Jordan, was released by the Iverson camp today after months of speculation during which the NBA's leading scorer apparently became discontented with Falk's representation.
Earvin "Magic" Johnson, a former professional basketball player and coach with the Los Angeles Lakers, recently signed on as an agent with the William Morris Agency and was named as Falk's probable replacement by several sources.
Iverson stated that Johnson, diagnosed as HIV positive in 1991, is the type of person he wants in his corner, but would not confirm reports that he had already signed with him.
"I'm getting ready to go with the best marketing people," Iverson told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "I want to see what's up with Magic."
Iverson's lawyers compiled papers to dismiss Falk and delivered the documents to Falk Associates Management Enterprise on Friday.
Johnson, who has made a post-basketball fortune developing theaters and mini-malls in South Central Los Angeles, was unavailable for comment.
The 76ers signed Iverson to a six-year, $70.9 million contract extension in January.
